OPIS KNJIGE:
Odlomak:
This book is the result of the international conference titled „The Croatian Medieval Town: Authority and Property“, that took place in Zagreb (Croatia) in 2010 at Croatian Institute of History. This papers of numerous authors focus on the relationships between authorities and properties. This includes, more precisely, the relationship of the royal/aristocratic/state authority towards the “property” within the urban community ; the relationship of the communal government towards the private and public property ; normative regulation of the property rights, and the relationship between the secular government and the ecclesiastical property. The aim of the conference was to stimulate discussion on some of the fundamental questions of urban history: What does owning a town or urban space in the Middle Ages mean? What was the role of the owner, or the user of the urban land in the development of a town? What did a change in the ownership entail? Which sources should we use and which methods should we apply to investigate the relationship between the authority and the property?
